End the struggle?
Last night Gerry Adams called for the IRA to give up its "armed struggle". Click here for story. This is a dramatic shift in the Sinn Fein policy. But now that the IRA is looking more like lawless thugs and not romantic freedom fighters, the pressures on Adams to make such a call are mounting.

Where have you been for the last 20 years. The IRA have been regarded as 'lawless thugs' for many many years.
Is it just that the media in the USA fails to report what is truly happening in N. Ireland???
Go visit and speak to the people living in the hellish crossfire that occurs every day.
Ireland is a beautiful country. I visit there frequently on business. The people are wonderful. But day on day news of bombings still happens. o much so that it is so common place people fail to bat an eyelid. The news doesn't make the headlines.

Here in the states, Northern Ireland and frankly the rest of the world are not covered in any detail by the majority of the media. The only times NI makes the news is during the riots and protests of marching season. This has allowed the IRA to maintain a quasi freedom fighter aura in the US. Additionally, the majority of Irish in the States migrated from the South, so there is a republican bias.
My post, which probably should have been clearer, questions Adams new found respect for law and order. Since Sinn Fein has been doing everything in its power to hold on to its weapons, to suddenly declare that the IRA should lay down their arms is laughable.
