Report Card Time

Nick got his second report card from kindergarten yesterday. And overall he's doing great. He aced the number and counting section, killed on the motor skills part, and only missed the letter "g" in pronounciation. He even showed improvement in self control and letting others talk.

He still needs to learn how to tie his shoes. But his shoes don't tie, they are basically kiddie loafers that look like sneakers.

Yeah, you'd better watch it on the laces. You don't want Nick to trip on his shoes and knock some expensive vases over at a museum or something.

I find this a lot with parents nowadays. They think they're saving time by getting their kids velcro shoes or slip-ons, but what they're really doing is causing trouble down the road.

The whole motivation in getting Nick to tie his shoes, is that you and Sarah get so sick and tired of tying his shoes for him, that you make him learn how to do it.

You don't want to wait too long to teach him. If he keeps using slip-ons or velcro into junior high school, he may reach that "rebellious stage" and not want to listen to you and Sarah to learn how to tie his shoes. Then, when he gets to high school, an otherwise well-adjusted Nick won't be able to get dates because he never learned how to tie his shoes.

You'd better get on this one right away. I'll help him out with his "Gs"
