Well my daughter wouldn't have Barbie buy liquor for Ken, she'd make it.

In a startling discovery, a Dartmouth University study uncovered data which seems to indicate that children, ages 2 through 6, in clinical settings will imitate their parents when they are instructed to have their dolls make purchases. Click here for story. The study found that when children see their parents drink and smoke, they will assume that this behavior is normal and acceptable.

The study also discovered that if a kid had seen movies with adult content, a term not defined in the story (but it seems to be movies rated PG13 or R), then that child was more likely to have Ken buy Barbie booze. What kind of parent is letting their 2 to 6 year old kids watch R rated movies?

Barbie needs a stiff drink after readingthis article.

What kind of parent? If I would have known of your question a few weeks back, I could have asked the gal who brought in 3 kids under 10 to see Hustle and Flow at the showing I was at.

Beyond the appropriateness question, they of course weren't into the film so they were up and down the stairs and in and out of the theater...

I just hope she got her money's worth - paying 4 admissions and snacks so she could enjoy the film.

Wow, I'm afraid to see what my kids will be doing with their dolls!

In all seriousness, many parents (and people in general) see drinking and smoking as "normal and acceptable." Should people hide the fact that they drink and smoke from their kids? What happens when the kids finds out about it anyway?

Also, is it really that startling that kids immitate their parents at a young age? Kids copy what they see. They see their parents the most, so they tend to copy them. Well, that and TV. They copy that a lot as well.
