A bold Idea whose time has come and gone and come and gone

Someone once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over yet expecting different results. Well those zany congressmen are at it again with a new plan for a dollar coin. Click here for story. The Presidential $1 Coin Act passed by a vote of 422 to 6. Which means that only 1.4% of Congress are sane.

The trick this time is to honor each president with his own dollar coin. The plan is to issue 4 new coins every year starting in 2007. So the point isn't to make a coin that the American public will use, but rather a coin that the American public will collect. My God, the US Mint will become little more than the Franklin Mint.

I can't wait for the official US Civil War chess set nickel.

I can't wait for the day that the dollar bill disappears and is replaced by the $1 coin.

The bill is a waste of money.

Personally, I would like to see the penny go away too and everything can be rounded to 5 cents. But, that's just crazy.

The problem is that we've tried it just a few years ago and it just didn't work. Plus these coins are simply being made for their collectablity, this is not a serious attempt to make a dollar coin used in the marketplace.

My other issue is that it used to be a great honor to be enshrined on a coin. But now every president(Hoover, Fillmore, Buchanan, Ford, Carter, Nixon) will all have their visage on a dollar coin.

Yes, we should convert to coin $1. I always hear on the news about how the dollar's going up or down. It's unreliable. Change always stays the same.

What's next the $5 coin. And will the old paper money eventually go to plastic since 90% of most people's spending is done with Credit cards, Debit cards, And discount cards. My poor wallet is already full with plastic now they want to add more change to my pocket. as if the pennies rattling around in the bottom of my purse weren't enough.
