The Wizard of Speed and Time

Just a bunch of things I think are interesting or funny.

You make the call: Vanguard of Free Speech, Washed Up Political hack willing to look the other way for a buck, or plain old dumb redneck

The title asks the most important question regarding this story from the Tennessean. The Mayor of Gallatin allowed his office and City Hall to be used in the filming of "Thong Girl 3. I'm not sure that I would let a film with a "Butt Laser" be filmed in my office.

School with Nick

This evening we went to the open house at Nick's school. It was pretty cool. The teacher seemed nice, but how many teachers would be hard asses during an open house? But two things really should be noted. First the music room was huge. And filled with much neater instruments then we had at school. There were bongos, congas and drums of all sizes. And not just one or two, they had 20 congas, and more bongos than that. Plus they had the usual xylophones, cymbals and tamborines. A heavy emphasis on percussion.

The second thing was Nick's favorite book picture. For this he had to spell his favorite book, write a sentence explaining why it is his favorite, and draw a picture of the story. Nick's favorite was "Little Red Riding Hood". Because Red sees the wolf in her grandma's clothes. Makes you think.

Confusing Headline

CNN posted an article with the headline "High price for back-door beauty". I never would have guessed that it would be about a woman in Brazil who died after having an unlicensed doctor perform a nose job and lyposuction.

Checkmate Nick

Well Nick seems to like Chess. I'm not sure if this is a good thing, but today he asked to play it. And after a brief explanation of the pieces I played a game with him. Of course I only had bishops and pawns, while he had the whole 16 pieces. I still won.

But even after that, Nick said that we should play everyday. Weird huh.

Ordinary Bitter Bubbling nicely

Again the basement is sounding like a brewery. The Ordinary Bitter I brewed Sunday has taken off and should be ready for the secondary on Sunday. I may brew a Porter to reuse the yeast cake, but I'm not sure that I can get Sarah to let me brew two weekends in a row.

I've also decided to get certified. This spring I'll be taking the Beer Judge Certification Exam. The Knaves are putting on a study plan for the exam. It will be harder than it should be.

Farewell crocodile hunter

This weekend Steve Irwin, Discovery Channel's "The Crocodile Hunter" died while shooting a documentary. Click here for story. A stingray stung him.

While my sympathy goes out to his wife and child, I cannot say that I am suprised at how he died. For years he has barely escaped death in his quest to get closer to dangerous wildlife than most people would consider wise. That was his schicht and part of his appeal.

Scooter advancing rapidly

This week Scooter has decided to start potty training. While we were cleaning the basement for the FFL Draft we came across the potty chair. Now before every diaper change she wants to sit on it. And she actually used it on Sunday. Hopefully a harbinger of things to come.
